Poem: Quieter bliss

October 26, 2026

Quieter bliss
sipping and flipping
dog licking paws
sun goldilocking
— neither broiling
not cloud ducking —
the only sounds
the flick of page
and eyelids' blink.
On the table
the new book
crowning —
Stephen King.
Intake of breath
as he does what he does —
pickpocketing brain
stealing disbelief.

Like so many around the world, I lost myself in this recent publication by Stephen King and Peter Straub. Such a joy, particularly as it feeds into the world of the Dark Tower novels, as well as finishing the trilogy that began in 1984 with The Talisman. I tried to slow my reading speed so that the experience would last longer, but that proved all but impossible.

Long may Mr King continue to horrify and delight.
